Capital of Kerala
Kerala was elevated to statehood by The States Reorganization Act of November 1, 1956. The capital of Kerala is Thiruvananthapuram. It was formerly known as Trivandrum. Besides being the political nerve centre of Kerala, it is renowned as for its major academic institutions. It also shares a place among the 10 greenest cities in India.

Kerala, what we see today is a mosaic of its past grandeur. Powerful dynasties that ruled the region in the ancient times created a strong base which was inherited by the future generations. Roads

NH 17 connects Edapally (Kochi) to Panavel (near Mumbai) and is the longest stretch of national highway through the state. The Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) is responsible for maintaining and expanding the state highways system.

Railways
Southern Railway line of the Indian Railways runs all over the state, linking all major towns and cities apart from those in the highland districts of Idukki and Wayanad. The two railway divisions in the state are Trivandrum Railway Division and Palakkad Railway Division.

Water ways
An important mode of inland navigation is via backwaters. National Waterway 3 navigates through the state.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode houses the three major international airports of the state. The Trivandrum International Airport is the first International airport in a non-metro city in India.
