Climate Weather in India

India, due to its geographical variations, defies the simple generalization of the climate. Travelers should confirm the climate in India states included in their itineraries during their India tours. It will enable them to come prepared for a comfortable stay in this colorful country!

Best time to visit India: With certain climatic variations from region to region, weather in India remains hot for most of the year. Months from December to February marked by fresh morning, sunny days and bright evenings are considered to be the coolest time period of the year. Time duration between March and June, days are really hot mounted with typical features of dryness, dust and unpleasantness. Beauty pours from sky in the form of monsoon rains and bestows natural beauty in most regions in summer between June and early October.

Seasons:
Four official seasons which have been designated by the Indian Meteorological department are:

Winter: India offers a completely chilling winter season which is enjoyable yet spooky. It occurs from December to early April, December and January being the coldest months of the year with average temperatures being 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) in the northwest region. As one proceeds towards the equator temperature gradually rises and in the south east region of Indian mainland it peaks around 20–25 °C (68–77 °F). Exotic hill stations of the country experience sub-zero temperature conditions. This season also suffers minimum rainfall. Travelers prefer visiting India during winter months as it expands all horizons of a perfect vacation.

Summer: Also known as pre monsoon season, summer in India is characterized by unbearable heat. It lasts from April to June (till July in northwestern India). April is the hottest month for western and southern regions while May is the hottest month for northern regions. The plains of northern India faces rise in temperature up to 45°C. During hot and scorching summer season people pack their bags to rush towards relatively cooler hill stations and valley regions along with their friends and family. Foreign visitors choose places like Ladakh, Ooty, Shimla, Munnar etc as their travel destination during summer in India.

Monsoon: Ultimate season when nature bestows everything with blissful rains is the monsoon. It usually lasts from June to September. Most of the areas in the country get their share of rainfall during monsoon, which leaves a shade of greenery all around. South West Monsoon arrives in India via Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the coast of Kerala. Later after passing through Mumbai, central India and eastern India, it reaches other parts of north and North West India. South India receives comparatively more rainfall than other parts of the country. In past, travelers used to avoid monsoon season but nowadays they travel especially during rainy season to witness the natural aura of Indian states.

Post Monsoon Season: After monsoon rains, period from October to December is categorized as post monsoon season. October and November are generally cloudless in northwestern India. Tamil Nadu collects most of its annual rainfall in the northeast monsoon season.

Required Clothing: You are advised to understand the climatic conditions of that particular region you are planning to visit and then accordingly pack your bags. Carry lightweights if you are visiting states during their summer season. Pack two or three warm clothes as evening might offer some chilliness. Waterproof clothes are essential if you are visiting during monsoon season and places which suffer uncertain rainfalls.
